A total of 144 cases of domestic violence were reported from Uttarakhand during coronavirus lockdown.

Domestic Violence In New Delhi : Uttarakhand recorded the highest number of domestic violence cases during coronavirus lockdown. Haryana is at number two, while the national capital Delhi is at number three.

The data has been released by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and refers to cases that have come to light in the last 2 months of the lockdown.

documented cases unfolding until May 15, according to which, 63 cases were reported from the national capital Delhi when the victimized women approached the counselors, seeking help.

79 Domestic Violence cases from Haryana

  • NALSA collected data from 28 state legal services (SLSA).
  • As per the NALSA report, 144 cases of domestic violence were reported from the state of Uttarakhand.
  • From Haryana, 79 cases of domestic violence were reported during the bandh.

  • In the report, it was mentioned that around 60,000 prisoners were released on parole during their detention in deported prisons.
  • Reportedly, 42,259 undertrial prisoners were released from the jail during the Lockdown.
  • A total of 9,977 inmates were released from the jail during lockdown in Uttar Pradesh.

People Find Help During the Lockdown

  • The report stated that 9,558 people have been provided legal representation on the remand stage in several states and union territories.
  • NALSA also said that many people sought help during the lockdown, the Times of India reported.

The NALSA contacted 1822 people

  • The Legal Services Authority assisted about 1,822 who contacted them.
  • The highest number of such cases were reported from the state of Uttarakhand, including Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
